The farmhouse and gardens were lovely and great for the dogs

David

We had a wonderful 2 week stay at Gould's Farmhouse.  Nicola was really friendly and helpful and helped make our stay enjoyable and relaxing.

The farmhouse and gardens were lovely and great for the dogs.  It was fun to try out the Aga - great roast potatoes take about an hour forty minutes!  We found the village very welcoming with a good local store and pub.  There are nice local walks as well, I especially liked to walk to Weatherby Castle and Tolpuddle is only a 2 mile walk away.

Dorset is beautiful and we had easy access to walk the Coast Path from Kimmeridge Bay to Lyme Regis.  We enjoyed trips to Dorchester, Blandford, Weymouth, Portlnd and Lyme Regis.  A bit further afield is the Square and Compass pub at Worth Matravers, great vews, pasties and pints!

.Large secure garden for our 2 llabradors

Steve

We both really enjoyed our week's stay at Gould's Farmhouse at the end of July 2023 so much so we will definitely be staying there again.

When choosing somewhere to stay we have to have "Dog Friendly" at the top of our search filters which first brought Gould's Farmhouse to our attention.

Our two black labradors also enjoyed their stay, sleeping next to the warmth of the Aga at night.  The large secure garden provided us with a very comfortable  environment to stay in and Nicola, the owner, whose family home this was going back to 1940s was always just a phne call away and nothing was too much trouble.

Just a few minutes' walk away is the award winning pub, The Royal Oak, which serves food all day but you ae well advised to book as like us, many people seem to enjoy eating there.

A short drive away is Poundbury where we have friends so Gould's Farmhouse is very conveniently situated for meeting up with them.

Looking forward to our next stay.

My Mam's 90th birthday

Audrie - Wiltshire

I hired the farmhouse for the weekend of my Mam's 90th birthday (what can you buy someone who is 90?!). She said it was one of the best birthday's ever and that was not just down to the family being with her. The farmhouse is beautiful. We spent a lot of time in the Sun Room and also the garden which was looking amazing. The property is extremely comfortable and very well appointed. Nicola goes out of her way to be helpful and make sure that visitors have everything they need. The surrounding area is lovely and there is a pub just across the road which does an excellent Sunday lunch. I would honestly recommend this to anyone. Fabulous.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, I am so pleased your mum enjoyed her birthday and the family enjoyed their stay at the farmhouse. The sun lounge has always been one of my favourite rooms - lovely with a coffee and the papers in the morning!

The dining room was fab!

Mrs Sheryl C

The Farmhouse was a lovely size and plenty of space for 8 people and a boisterous dog. Bedrooms all v comfy and nice to have 3 en-suites. Dining room was fab as was the kitchen facilities and the conservatory. Garden was lovely in the sun with plenty of room to eat out and the the kids to play. Farmhouse was easy to find and v clean and tidy on arrival. The Royal Oak in the village was walking distance and the food there was great and good value. Play area in the beer garden also - great for small kids. Easy access from here to all the lovely beaches along the Jurassic coast as well as National Trust places and other local museums e.g. Tanks and Monkey world! Something for everyone and would recommend to families and friends.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed spending time in the garden which is lovely at the moment. I am pleased you were able to get out and about in Dorset and the children enjoyed the beach. We are particularly lucky in Dorset that we have both sandy and pebbly beaches

Ideal village/countryside location with atmosphere

Anonymous

Three generations of our family, eldest 68,youngest 7, spent an extremely enjoyable week at this farmhouse. The House is very comfortable with an arresting, large, landscaped garden, in which we played hide and seek.

There is a large lounge and large dining room, both beautifully furnished, with impressive fireplaces. The substantial table in the dining room provided ample space for our party of seven to dine comfortably.

The large kitchen is well equipped including an Aga.

The bedrooms, three en-suite, had comfortable beds and all members of the party slept well. All bedrooms have views, the front bedrooms have views of rolling countryside and of the church on the hill.

The village has a small supermarket, a post office and a pub which serves food and where you may purchase second-hand books.

There is little traffic on the road outside and for me the house exuded an atmosphere of peace and calm, which I found very relaxing.

The location is perfectly placed for access to the coast and also other inland attractions.

The Property Manager has been helpful throughout.

Thanks Nicola, we would love to visit again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind remarks about my farmhouse. The garden was lovingly planned and cared for by my mother for over 60 years and I still enjoy the peace and tranquility it offers.

Lovely period Farmhouse, full of character.

PAW - Kent

The Farmhouse is full of character and original features. We are a family of 8 over 3 generations aged 10 months - 57 years, plus 2 small dogs and the property met all of our needs.

Nicola the owner made sure that we had everything we needed and was very approachable with regular contact before our visit.

The fact that all 3 bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms is a real bonus. The house was clean and fully equipped.

What really makes this property superb, is it's fantastic garden. My only regret was that the English weather was not kind during our stay so we were not able to enjoy it to the full. We will have to return again and pray for sunshine.

The pub and village shop are both within walking distance as is the small park. The pub serves great food at very reasonable prices and the staff there were very helpful.

The beaches along the Jurassic coast line are beautiful and within easy reach by car. Weymouth and Poole are also less than 30 mins drive away.

I would certainly recommend this property and we do plan to return ourselves.

Thank you Nicola for making our stay so enjoyable.

As advertised, a large suitably designed farmhouse in which we, a family of 8 enjoyed our stay

Michael B

Having read the very positive August review of the author and his family's experiences, we can identify with the comments made. Likewise, we were a family of three generations, aged from the late 60s to a 9 nine year old. It was so very nice to find a home which accommodated all 8 of us comfortably. We enjoyed a home cooked Christmas lunch in a wonderful dining room. Everything needed to facilitate the preparation of the food, it's consumption etc. was provided for. Ease of access to the home on arrival and immediate contact if required, to the Owner, Nicola, via phone were greatly appreciated. Thank you Nicola for allowing us to use your home over the Christmas period which enabled us, as a family to enjoy our time together.

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you enjoyed your Christmas in my farmhouse, I have to say I have many happy memories of Christmases spent there.

Brilliant house for all the family

Rachel L

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the farmhouse and I thoroughly enjoyed it. With two children under 3 and the in-laws, we found that there was more than enough room - in fact my eldest loved to play hide and seek both inside and out! It is perfectly situated for short drives to all the typical tourist attractions and if we were to return to the area for another holiday I would certainly look to stay at the farmhouse again!

Wonderful house

Eileen C

Very relaxing home from home grounds were great for our dog to run around and be safe.

Young's stay at Gould's Farmhouse

Barry Young

Hi Nicola,
We had a wonderful stay in your house at Milbourne St. Andrew for our family Golden Wedding celebration. The children enjoyed playing in the garden, hide and seek, easter egg hunt, plenty of space to run around, and we enjoyed the display of tulips and the bluebell wood. The house was very comfortable and we had great family meals in the dining room when our sons and wives were with us and later in the week in the kitchen with just the grandchildren We had trips out to Weymouth, Lulworth, Swanage and I think the children's favourite was Monkey World. A good location for travelling around.

Bronwen's stay at Gould's Farmhouse

Bronwen

We spent a wonderful week at Gould’s Farmhouse in September, 2017. 3 couples and 2 dogs, all looking for a relaxing week of long walks, visits to local places of interest and leisurely evenings. The Farmhouse was the most perfect setting and was even better than the photos suggested; a beautiful old house with plenty of room and brimming with character (open fireplaces, stone floors, high ceilings and windows and a stunning enclosed garden with room to sit out and for dogs to chase around). It felt very much like a home as opposed to somewhere we had rented for the week which really added to the feeling of complete relaxation.

Not only was the place itself wonderful (and ticked every box we had) but Nicola herself was incredibly helpful, both in terms of arranging our visit, but also when we get there and had a couple of questions. There was plenty of information and literature about the house and the local area.

The location was perfect for us with great walks, a very nice local pub just around the corner and a shop selling all the basics. There was much more to explore a little further afield, but if you wanted to stay close to base and limit the driving, as we did, you’d have no problems.

Not only would we recommend this place to anyone but we’re already talking about a return visit!

A substantial, spacious, well equipped and comfortable house

Sue and Alan, Lincolnshire.

We were a party of five active adults, two couples and a single, all over sixty, who rented this lovely old house for a week in April 2018, luckily including the hottest 4 April days for decades.  The house was ideal for us, substantial, spacious, well-equipped and comfortable, and located in a lovely area, with the Dorset coast including Poole and Weymouth, and beautiful and interesting towns like Sherborne within easy driving distance.

The outlook from all the bedrooms was very attractive, two overlooking green fields with sheep and horses grazing. The gardens in Spring were particularly attractive and well-maintained, and made a pleasant place to wander or sit with early-evening drinks.  The Londis convenience shop and the Post Office just a three-minute walk away were useful.

The owner, Nicola was attentive and helpful, and after a very pleasant and relaxing week we were quite reluctant to leave, and have no hesitation in recommending the house to others.

This gem of a house set on the edge of a lovely village

The Osbornes

Three generations of our family enjoyed a wonderful time in this gem of a house set on the edge of a lovely village and surrounded by fields. A large garden and a spacious interior meant that our two small grandchildren didn’t run out of hiding places during our four night stay. A five minute walk takes you to the centre of the village where there is a General store, Post Office and the Royal Oak pub which serves great food, both to eat in or takeaway, and where the staff and locals are all friendly and welcoming. We loved chilling in the evening in front of the open hearth fire with a glass of wine, and being over the New Year period, the Christmas tree, mistletoe and holly decorations were an unexpected but joyful bonus. It goes without saying that we will be visiting again in the future.

Amazing farmhouse

Helen

We have just returned from a week’s holiday at this amazing farmhouse. We absolutely loved all the original features and in particular the aga in the kitchen. It was great always knowing that the kitchen was so cosy and warm . I also really enjoyed the benefits of the aga for cooking. The farmhouse was spotlessly clean and very comfortable throughout. Another bonus to this property is the extensive secure garden - it’s great for children and dogs. We also enjoyed making use of the bbq and outdoor table as well as the very comfortable recliner garden chairs. Gould’s Farmhouse is in a lovely little village with great walks for dogs from the doorstep. It’s a great location too for getting out and about and exploring the beautiful Dorset countryside and coastline. The staff in the local pub are very friendly and the food was nice. I would recommend staying in this lovely farmhouse. Nicola, the owner is most helpful and very welcoming. Arrival and departure is made very easy with the use of a key safe and very comprehensive instructions and directions from Nicola. We had a very enjoyable stay and we were very happy with our choice of holiday home for our week in Dorset.

So much space inside and out

Rachel

I chose this house as my family were coming over from Australia. There were 8 of us that stayed here for a week. From the photos it looked like a house just right for all of us.I can honestly say it’s a very beautiful house with so much space inside and out.The living room was big enough for us all to relax in the evenings and the bedrooms were big and spacious. This lovely home was not only beautiful but it has a lift for people to get upstairs if needed. My Mum is 81 so it was perfect for her to be able to have access to upstairs. We played board games in the dining room and enjoyed cooking in the kitchen with a fabulous aga and a dishwasher to clean away the dishes.I cannot express enough how perfect this place is for a big family in the quietness of the countryside with The Royal Oak pub only a few minutes walk away.A lovely Sunday roast with a Sports Bar to watch the football. We all loved our stay here and would love to come back again one day

A real homely feel for Christmas

Cheryl and Terry Gloucestershire

We were a party of 8, 6 adults, 2 teenagers, and a 6 month old baby, 3 generations of my family. The house is very spacious, and has a real homely feel. It was perfect for my family, we need somewhere for us all to be together over Christmas. The kitchen was well equipped, I enjoyed cooking Christmas dinner on the aga. There was more than enough room in the dining room for all of us including the highchair for the baby. The bedrooms were also a good size, with ensuite bathrooms. Toiletries was a nice touch. The Pub in the village supplied us a take-away meal on our last night, nothing was too much trouble for them. I recommend it. The Jurassic coast is a short drive. Although the weather was awful, it rained every day. We still had a wonderful Christmas at the farmhouse. I would recommend the farmhouse I would like to thank Nicola for making our stay very enjoyable.

Excellent Accommodation

Ian

We had a wonderful week along with 2 children and 4 grandchildren in this lovely old farmhouse in such a beautiful, old, quiet, traditional and unspoilt village in a great location in the middle of Dorset. The accommodation was excellent with many original features to remind us of what it must have been like living in a house like this in previous centuries. The large garden was a great bonus, particularly for the grandchildren, who also benefitted from the village hall children’s’ play a short walk away from the cottage. We also would highly recommend the village pub-The Royal Oak-whose garden area is large and well-equipped. There is also a village shop and a Post Office within easy walking distance as well as a beautiful old church. The coast is easily accessible and there are several National Trust and other properties only a short drive away. We highly recommend this property for a memorable stay.

A wonderful week

Iain and Pamela

We have just completed a wonderful week's 3 generation holiday at Gould's Farmhouse, the perfect setting and base for visiting Dorset. Gould's is set in a typical Dorset village full of character, as is the farmhouse. The farmhouse, parts of which date back to the 1600s, has all the modern conveniences you could wish for. The grandchildren loved playing hide and seek around the house and in the large garden which is full of nooks and crannies to hide in We fully recommend it. Would we go there again? YES!

A delightful week in Gould’s Farmhouse

Tony

"Our family spent a delightful week in Gould’s Farmhouse this September. The gardens and house have real charm and are plentifully equipped. The weather was kind to us but nonetheless we were grateful for the warmth in the ample conservatory to read and relax. The dining room is a treat – every meal felt like an occasion with so much room in lovely surroundings – the bridge sessions went on well into the evening. Lastly the gardens themselves – from the awesome willow to the September flowers it was splendid to enjoy the odd lunch outside."

Stunning farm house with a beautiful garden, 5 out of 5!

The Allens & Buddy

This lovely property was spotless with large comfortable rooms and a very well-equipped kitchen. Our dog especially loved the AGA, we had to bribe him to leave it to go for a walk! We all had a great time and hope to be returning again soon. Thank you Nicola for making our stay so enjoyable.

We have had a wonderful holiday in your house

Annette

We have had a wonderful holiday in your house, the weather was kind to us and everyone has been friendly and helpful.

We ate 3 times at The Royal Oak and last night at The Milton Arms - all very good.  We had booked in at the pub in Milton Abbas but they cancelled at the last minute as their new chef had a family emergency.

We went to Weymouth, Poultons  Park, Monkey Land and finally Sculpture on the Lakes, my favourite.  Action packed for everyone.

We have never stayed anywhere where we felt so immediately relaxed

Helen

Having been fortunate enough to travel both in the UK and abroad extensively we have never stayed anywhere where we felt so immediately relaxed. Gould’s Farmhouse is the most beautiful property, with so much character and history, we felt privileged to be staying there.

The well equipped kitchen with an Aga (that the dogs loved!) was used every morning for breakfast. Sat at the table looking at the wonderful garden, fields and church beyond is a view I would never tire of. Morning coffee and papers in the bright, sunny conservatory.  We would then prize the dogs away from the Aga and head out.

There is so much to do in the local area for all generations. We had some very good walks - Lulworth, Wareham Forest and several straight from the farmhouse. We were always keen to get back to Gould’s and sit in the beautiful garden then enjoy the fire in the lounge on a chilly evening. The bedrooms were all large, en suite and extremely comfortable.

The village is a delight to explore and we were made to feel very welcome by the local community. There’s a well stocked village store, a post office and The Royal Oak pub which has an extensive menu and serves delicious meals.

Thank you Nicola for your hospitality. We will return as soon as possible to Gould’s Farmhouse for the peace and tranquility it gives.

It was a joy to arrive here

Maureen

We have just spent a really lovely week in this old farmhouse, it was a joy to arrive here to find that everything had been done to make our stay comfortable. The house itself is full of charm and character and beautifully clean and ready to just unpack and enjoy.
We found it to be well equipped with everything you could possibly need.
Situated in a charming village with a shop nearby for essentials and a pub within walking distance.

Stayed March to April 2022

Barbara

Well what a lovely place to stay. It is so convenient for exploring rural areas as well as the coast.A visit to the Royal Oak is a must for lunch or an evening meal and Sunday lunch. We sampled all three !!The lift was an absolute godsend for us due to mobility issues. We enjoyed the challenge of the AGA with some success. .The dog loved having a large space to explore and we enjoyed sitting in the garden when the weather allowed and the sun room when it didn't. With walks on the doorstep the car was not always needed.A clean spacious property that we will be returning too. Many thanks Nicola.

What a lovely place to stay

Charles and Clare

This is a very special place to stay and we have already made a booking for a week next summer.  It is in a stunning location in a tranquil part of the village, which has a thriving community feel.
As we walked through the door, the house felt instantly welcoming.  It is a real home and immediately this helped us to relax into holiday mode.  The beds (always of interest to me as I have a dodgy back) are very comfortable with deep supportive mattresses and the rooms are large and airy with attractive views over fields and hedgerows.  There was plenty of space on the ground floor for our party of seven and the dining room gave meals a real sense of occasion.   This was especially true when we were visited one day by some relations for a jubilee lunch.
The garden is really lovely and being so close to a large playground and a very child-friendly pub was ideal for our small grandchildren.
The village has a very handy local store and there is another one nearby in Puddletown.  We greatly enjoyed our visits to nearby Athelhampton House & Gardens, the old abbey church at Milton Abbas and Kingston Maurward Gardens & Animal Park. The beach and pirate-themed mini golf at Weymouth are only about 40 minutes away.
Gould’s Farmhouse is an exceptional holiday property and we feel very fortunate to have discovered it.

We will definitely be back.

Linda

As soon as we walked into Goulds Farmhouse we felt at home. There was a lovely feeling of peace and we immediately slipped into holiday mode and we felt totally relaxed.
Everything we could possibly need was there and the house was spotlessly clean. Although we had perfect weather, the aga gave a lovely welcoming feel to the kitchen in the mornings and sitting at the kitchen table over a leisurely breakfast was a great start to the day.
Comfortable beds, decent showers and peace and quiet added to the fantastic experience.
Nicola made sure that we had all the information we needed and was very accessible if we had any queries.
The house is perfectly situated for many areas of interest. We visited Tyneham village, Corfe, Tolpuddle, Charmouth, Brownsea Island and Sculptures on the Lake. Every day out was brilliant but it was lovely to come back to the house and relax.
We will definitely be back.

We had a fantastic stay

Alison, Cambridge

" We had a fantastic stay at Gould's farmhouse with our teenage son and parents in their 70s and 80s.  The house is spacious, comfortable and really well equipped.  It was the first time we'd used an Aga and we enjoyed trying to cook with it.  The lift is useful for those who find stairs difficult and the enormous, well-kept garden is a real bonus.  We were incredibly lucky with the weather and found plenty to do within half an hour's drive- in fact we ran out of time, so we're already planning a return trip next year."

The children loved the huge garden

Stewart Leicestershire

We had a lovely week at Gould’s Farmhouse. Three generations fitted very comfortably in the generous accommodation. The children loved the huge garden - wonderful for hide and seek and ball games - whilst the adults were able to spread out and relax across the homely spaces downstairs. We had excellent meals at the local pub and the village is well placed for all that Dorset has to offer. We recommend it as an excellent place to stay.
